Academic Assessment (WIAT-4 Centered)

An introduction to academic achievement assessment, taught using the WIAT-4 as the primary instrument (other academic measures are acknowledged). Day 1: Administration. Day 2: Scoring, defensible interpretation, and beginning to write up the results.

Course Description

A concept-first introduction to academic achievement assessment — what it is, how to plan it, and how to interpret achievement data defensibly — anchored on the WIAT-4 as the tool participants learn hands-on, while acknowledging that other academic measures (e.g., KTEA, Woodcock-Johnson) exist and the concepts transfer.

Day 1 teaches WIAT-4 administration;

Day 2 covers scoring, interpretation (composites vs subtests, measurement error and base rates, avoiding “low score = diagnosis”), and starting the write-up.

Eligibility Criteria

A master’s degree in psychology, education, SLP, OT, social work, or counselling (with ethics/administration training), or membership/certification in a recognized professional body, or a healthcare/allied-health licence, or formal supervised assessment training or A Registered Psychologist. Doctorate is not required.

Participant Eligibility

Eligibility varies by course. Some courses are intended for psychologists, provisional psychologists, and graduate-level psychology students. Other courses may be appropriate for mental health professionals, teachers, or educational specialists with suitable training, scope, permissions, and test-publisher qualifications.

Continuing Education

Lighthouse Child & Adolescent Clinical Training Institute and RMPS are not currently CPA-approved CE sponsors unless and until that status changes. Please confirm any continuing education eligibility before advertising CE credit.
